I'm also a poet!

In addition to my Musical Theatre degree, I achieved a minor in creative writing. Through the classes and workshops I have completed at IU,  I put together my first chapbook, titled "Welcome to my Closet" (attached below). This chapbook is very personal, as it follows my own reckoning with identity, sexuality, and external expression. A motif of personifying clothing in my poetry inspired me to explore how clothes (and also society’s perception of our exterior) affects our identities and sense of self worth.

POetry performance

I was thrilled to turn "Welcome to my Closet" into a musical, choreographed performance piece. I collaborated with Jazz musicians and Ballet dancers from the Jacobs School of Music to transform my chapbook into a fully realized concept piece. It was the most fulfilling work I have done to date! I hope to continue creating poetry-based performance pieces, and flush out the intersection between my two main passions.

playwriting!

I have also dabbled in playwriting! I was lucky enough to have my 10 minute play "Lonesome Blues" performed at Trinity Repertory Theatre's new works competition, Write Here! Write Now! (2019). It was so exciting to watch my work come to life. Click the box to right for a recording of this performance!
